3-member delegation led by acting British High Commissioner Peter Tibber called on the Punjab Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shauja-ur-Rehman regarding Education Sector Reforms Programme. Alistair King and Mackenzi were in the delegation. Provincial Education Minister and Secretary Schools informed the delegation about the reforms being made in the education sector.
The delegation was informed that 80 percent target has been achieved due to Primary enrolment campaign whereas remaining 20 percent will be obtained after summer vacations. Talking to delegation Mian Mujtaba said that on coming into power, Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif declared education and health his top priority.
He said that important steps have been taken for improvement of education sector in the province during the last three years, which included setting up of computer labs, recruitment of teachers on merit, cash prizes and holding of ceremonies in honour of position holders students, provision of quality education to the poor students in Daanish Schools, establishment of Punjab Endowment Fund, Model Schools and imparting training to the teachers.
The delegation was informed that political interference has been eliminated from the education sector and appointments on all administrative posts have been made purely on merit through search committees in education department. The delegation was also told that educational budget is also being spent in a very transparent manner. The delegation took keen interest in the educational reforms being made in Punjab and also desired success of these educational reforms.
