The Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned hearing on a petition against the Religious Affairs Secretary Shaukat Hayat Durrani and Director General Hajj Syed Abu Akif for defying the court orders regarding cancellation of quota allotted to private Hajj group organisers (HGOs) and allocation of the same on merit.
Ashfaq Ahmad Mirza through his counsel Azhar Siddique submitted that an LHC full bench on June 6, had directed the Ministry of Religious Affairs to cancel Hajj quota and allocate it to Haj group organisers afresh. The petitioner approached the ministry for implementation of the court order but the ministry refused to do so on the pretext that entire quota allotted to the previous Hajj organisers had been exhausted, therefore, it would not be possible for it to act upon orders.
