Senior judge of Supreme Court (SC) Justice Javed Iqbal on Monday summoned Rana Sanaullah, Punjab Law Minister, on July 7 in his chamber for allegedly declaring Dr Babar Awan liable to be killed. Awan on June 20 filed an application in the human rights cell of Supreme Court praying to the Chief Justice to form judicial commission to examine Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah's statement in which he declared Awan as liable to be killed.
Chief Justice Chaudhry forwarded the application to Justice Javed Iqbal, who on Monday heard the application in his chamber and issued notice to Rana Sanaullah to appear before him in his chamber on July 7 at 1:30 pm. Dr Awan stated in the application that if any attempt was made on his life, property or family then Rana Sanaullah would be held responsible, adding that a judicial commission should be formed to examine the issue.
He contended that some outlaws were asked by the Punjab Government to launch a murder attack on him during his journey from Lahore to Gujranwala during his recent visit to Lahore, adding that the conspiracy was disclosed to a former federal minister of Balochistan, who is ready to disclose it before the court.
Awan further said that Shahbaz Sharif government in the Punjab was desperate to arrest him on any false charge or pretext and then facilitate such an attack on his life either in the jail, police station or some where in lower court's premises. "There is eminent danger and threat to his life solely because of his political activities at the hands of Rana Sanaullah and others," Babar Awan maintained.
