Politics is a dirty game of divide and rule. It is played by the politicians to befool the public. Politics suits the politicians to come in power with public votes. The voters in return get nothing except new masters who manipulate politics and play with public sentiments for their own benefits. Whether democracy or dictatorship? It makes no difference to the common man.
In democracy, the politicians in power get a free hand to loot and plunder the public. The last two times governments of the PPP and the PML (N) are a testimony to this fact. Their governments were dismissed (twice by president Ghulam Ishaq Khan and next asked to resign by the Army General Abdul Waheed Khan Kakar) for inefficiency, nepotism, corruption, loot and plunder.
In the name of Awami Jamhuriyat, the politicians in power enjoy not only the perks and privileges of their high offices but also think themselves immune from rule of law. The Awami President sits fully protected, well guarded and best served, enjoying the luxuries of life in a presidential palace at the taxpayers' expense; but those who voted him to power in the name of democracy on the fake slogan of roti, kapra aur makan are left unprotected at the mercy of the terrorists who inflict death and destruction by drone attacks and bomb blasts. People hard hit by long hours load shedding, business closures, unemployment and galloping inflation die of hunger and disease as is the case of present day Pakistan.
Dictatorship if in the right hands, however, ensures proper discipline in all walks of life and the economy grows for the benefits of the common man as was the case during the decade of development in the times of Field Marshal Ayub Khan (1958 to 1968). The political leadership after the events of 1971 (break-up of Pakistan) reversed the era of economic progress by resorting to massive nationalisation of trade and industry in the year 1972 and year 1973 to cherish its goal of giving roti, kapra aur makan to the masses. (Halwai ki dukan par Dada Jee ki Fateha).
By this unwise and unethical move, the business and industrial base was brutally destroyed. The adverse effects of this ill-conceived policy decision are still felt in 2011. Loss caused to the economy is still not repaired. Hajj scam, fraud/corruption in NICL, Pakistan Still Mills, PIA, OGDC and other state institutions are the latest additions of jewels of corruption in the crown of present day democracy.
Politics took its roots for the first time in the sub-continent of undivided India during the British Raj (1857 to 1947); otherwise the Indian sub-continent had been the abode of peace loving people from all shades of life. All religious communities (Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Budh) co-existed with peace and harmony and had respect to each others religions.
The British rulers divided the people into Hindus and Muslims with the politics of TWO NATION THEORY. Hate and enmity was created between the people for the ulterior motives of the British Raj to prolong its rule in India against the wishes of Indians.
On the basis of the Two-nation theory British India was divided in 1947 to give birth to two independent/sovereign states, ie, Bharat and Pakistan. People suffered on both sides of the border. Families of the migrant people were divided and left behind to suffer the mental agony arising from the partition of India.
Again as a result of politics today's Pakistan is now divided in many factions ie Sindhi, Muhajir, Punjabi, Pathan and Balochi, who had become easy prey to power politics. Half of Pakistan was lost in 1971 due to dirty politics played by the Awami League of East Pakistan and Pakistan Peoples Party of West Pakistan. Both the main political parties of East and West Pakistan did not like to coexist and live together in one Pakistan. They did choose to separate from each other to give birth to Bangladesh by their power politics.
People have much suffered due to dirty politics. Peaceful sub-continent of India was divided in 1947 due to the politics of Two-nation theory. We lost East Pakistan in 1971 due to the two parties (Awami League and PPP) power politics; and are still faced with divide and rule politics of the present day political parties. Daily targeted killings in Karachi are the result of ethnic and linguistic party politics.
The common people generally do not get involved in politics, which divides them. They like peace and harmony and coordinal relations between there brethren living in Pakistan. They want good governance free from politics ensuring rule of law, protection of life and property, opportunities for trade, business, employment, health and education with fair play and justice. Who rules the country does not matter? How the country is ruled is the matter of public interest in Pakistan?
