The counsel for renowned nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has submitted reply in Islamabad High Court (IHC) on a plea against him seeking restrictions on his free movement and for the implementation of IHC order of February 6, 2009.
A single member bench of IHC comprising Chief Justice Iqbal Hameed-ur-Rehman resumed hearing of the petition of Colonel Muhammad Faheem, Chief Security Co-ordinator to Dr A Q Khan. Ahmar Bilal Sufi, counsel for the Ministry of Interior, requested the court to pass an order to stop Dr Khan for giving interviews to media over national issues.
Deputy Attorney General Tariq Mahmood Jahangeri apprised the bench to direct Dr A Q Khan to obey the IHC order of February 6, 2009. The Chief Justice after hearing the arguments remarked that the court would pass an order after reviewing Dr A Q Kahn's reply and adjourned the hearing till date in office.
In earlier hearing, the IHC had issued a notice to Dr Khan against the plea seeking restrictions his free movement. The petitioner raised serious objections on frequent travel and meetings of Dr Khan and feared they could put him in an awkward position and risk his life.
The petition said "Dr A Q Khan has also carried out some unauthorised communication which is being assessed and the same is in violation of specific court orders whereby the court had directed him not to communicate on sensitive matters". The Chief Justice had remarked that he cannot give any decision before getting Dr Khan's statement.
