During its ongoing drive against outlaws, Islamabad Police busted 279 gangs and arrested a total of 945 persons for their alleged involvement in different crimes, said a spokesman of Islamabad Police here on Monday.
During the first half of 2011, Capital Police chased 10 gangs involved in blind murders and nabbed 23 gangsters, while three gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom were also busted and nine kidnappers were apprehended, said a report presented to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Bani Amin Khan.
Addressing the crime review meeting of the Capital Police, the IGP said that commitment and devotion by the personnel of Islamabad police despite several constraints made them successful against the criminal elements this year. He said that police officers and jawans remained firm against the menace of terrorism and also emerged successful during the on-going year in countering criminal elements, the murderers, drug pushers, robbers and criminal gangs.
He was told that in a bid to curb immoral activities, Islamabad police traced 26 gangs and arrested 193 persons involved in such acts. Two gangs involved in rape were netted and five persons were also arrested. Similarly, 15 gangs involved in dacoities, 35 gangs involved in snatching valuables at gun point, 25 involved in burglary activities, 88 gangs involved in theft cases, 19 gangs of car thieves, seven gangs of selling vehicles after tempering them were busted during 2011.
