The 95th Midshipmen Commissioning and Fourth Short Service Commission (SSC) Class Passing Out Parade was held at the Pakistan Naval Academy, here on Monday. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Noman Bashir, was the chief guest at the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, Admiral Bashir said that the smartly turned out young men and women reassert "my confidence in the glorious future of our country".
He said that he was encouraged to see the fourth batch of female cadets as part of the parade today. Not only it signified the self-assurance of Pakistani women in their abilities but also their will to step into seafaring profession which was an exclusively male preserve in the past, he added. The Naval Chief said that it also epitomises the humble and continual contribution of the Navy in the nation-building process.
Admiral Bashir informed the passing out Midshipmen and cadets that this country has invested in equipping our Navy with latest war-fighting platforms, weapons and sensors to enable you to perform your mission to the best of your abilities. But modern weaponry alone does not guarantee success. It requires high professional skills and undeterred will to accomplish assigned tasks against all odds.
He said that today the Naval warfare is an exceedingly vast and complex domain which demands thorough knowledge and ingenuity. This is only possible through sheer commitment and wholehearted involvement in the profession. The Naval chief pointed out that Pakistan today is beset with numerous challenges. The scourge of terrorism continues to plague our national effort towards a progressive and a prosperous nation. As many as 94 officers including seven females were commissioned to join as regular staff.
Earlier in his welcome address Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, Commodore Ayaz Ahmed Nasir, highlighted the salient features of training at Pakistan Naval Academy. Later, the Chief Guest awarded prizes to the winners Midshipman Zeeshan Javed was awarded Sword of Honour for best performance. Academy's Dirk was grabbed by Midshipman Saad Sohail Malik. For best performance, Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal was awarded to him. M Wahab Usama and the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gold Medal went to Cadet Mohsin Saeed Commandant Gold Medal was given to Cadet Beenish Zaidi. Cadet Tharawat JH Jamalan from Palestine Navy received the CNS Gold Medal and was declared the best all round allied cadet.
