All CNG stations across Sindh will remain closed for two days on July 11-12 (Monday-Tuesday) due to four day closure of Kadanwari Gas Field for annual turn around (ATA). Managing Director, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) Azim Iqbal Siddiqui announced this while briefing media about the Kadanwari Gas field annual turn around (ATA) and gas load management for CNG here on Tuesday.
He said that SSGC would be facing shortfall of 200mmcfd of gas due to four-day closure of Kadanwari Gas field for its ATA. The Kadanwari Gas field will remain closed for four days from July 08, 2011. "We will be receiving 132mmcfd gas on Saturday while there would be zero gas supply for remaining three days from Kadanwari gas filed," he said.
He also said that the industry would be requested for 25 percent less consumption of gas during these four days. This gas load management plan would help SSGC to supply more gas to power generation companies to avoid power shortage in Sindh, he added. He pointed out that the SSGC's receivables have increased to Rs 41 billion. He said SSGC's receivables from Karachi Electric Supply Company have increased to Rs 30 billion with current bill and Pakistan Steel to Rs 3 billion.
Regarding the current demand-supply gap, Azim Iqbal Siddiqui said that SSGC is receiving 1051mmcfd gas against total demand of 1252mmcfd. He was expecting that 200mmcfd additional gas would be added to the system from new wells and the situation would improve next winter. He pointed out that SSGC has expressed its interest to acquire Progas Company. The company has good storage facility at Port Qasim. Due to liquidity issues, a bank has taken over this company. The bank has announced its auction on July 27, 2011. On a question, he pointed out that a new gas supply and payment agreement would be signed between SSGC and Karachi Electric Supply Company soon.
