Power shortfall touched 3,500MW during last 24 hours, likely to increase further with widening gap between demand and supply amidst further rise in mercury. The power generation stood at 13,375MW against a demand of 16,948MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 3,573MW.
Humidity is likely to increase with rise in mercury that would shoot up usage of air-conditioners to blow in the face of power supply system. The public anger is on the rise with forced closures, especially in remote areas. It may be noted that at least two people were killed and 28 injured in Mianwali on Monday as police had bitter clashes with protesters demonstrating against prolonged load shedding.
The political observers are of the view that the PPP government is likely to pay heavy price in case it continued to live with present load shedding ahead. Power generation through hydro, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5226 MW, 1668 MW, 6347 MW and 134MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to the KESC stood at 710MW.
