Federal Revenue Alliance (FRA) Employees Union, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), staged a protest demonstration at Regional Tax Office (RTO) on Tuesday against delay in long-awaited promotion of inspectors and freezing of different allowances.
President FRA, Mian Abdul Qayyum said that the government had taken u-turn from its original stance, by freezing FBR employees' allowances. He said that when reforms were introduced in the FBR, it was decided that all officials would be given additional incentives.
The president FRA claimed that employees were expecting a bonus on achieving tax collection target of Rs 1,588 billion, but they had been denied from their due right. Condemning the government's decision, he said that FBR employees would launch a well-organised agitation campaign at all FBR offices against this move. He said that FBR was declared an autonomous body in 2007, but still it had to look towards the Establishment Division and Ministry of Finance for decision making.
He pointed out that during the reform process, the World Bank and other donor organisations proposed incentives for employees that were agreed by the government and FBR. All employees pass Internal Job Posting (IJP) test for extra monetary benefits, but now they had been denied the same. The president FRA said that it was really unjust that over 1,400 FBR inspectors were being denied promotions for decades. There was no criterion for promotions of inspectors in FBR, which was also against the ruling of the apex court.
