The Karachi Electric Supply Company has expressed surprise and concern over a strange incident in which the villagers of areas behind Gharo Grid Station installed illegal electricity supply infrastructure and insisted the utility to energise it.
Upon KESC's refusal, they went to the extent of interrupting power supply to the Gharo Water Pumping Station which disturbed water supply to the City. Claiming that they had strong political backing, the culprits daringly owned illegal and unauthorised PMT and the cable network and did not oblige to dismantle it when asked by KESC.
After establishing a wholly illegal power supply system to their villages, the culprits made attempts to get the electricity from KESC's main transmission lines which were thwarted by the utility. However, the villagers later unlawfully pulled down some high tension spans causing tripping of Gharo Water Pumping Station feeder. The culprits even dared to confront KESC personnel and insisted on energising of their illegal power infrastructure on the excuse that they enjoyed political support. The KESC asked the government to intervene into the matter and has sought protection from law enforcement agencies.-PR
