The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has provided Rs 2.4 billion for health and population since 2010, till date. Secretary Planning Commission and representative of USAID stated this here on Tuesday while launching first logistic and procurement cell meant to put in place a system to ensure better management of contraceptives stock supplies at the district and sub-district health facilities along with community distribution.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sohail Ahmad, Secretary Planning and Development said 'Logistics and Procurement Cell' is important for policy, strategic and operational decision-making and Logistics Management Information System (LISM) is its essential ingredient. The LISM will be helpful to better plan, procure, forecast, quantify and manage supplies and stocks of contraceptives at the district and sub-district health facility and community distribution levels.
USAID representative Dr Isa said that Pakistan was being provided more than Rs 6 billion support for the rehabilitation of central warehouse logistics information system. Country Director of the USAID, Dr Muhammad Tariq said that the project namely "Deliver Project" help in optimisation of supply chain in health and population sectors.
The USAID Pakistan is providing the supply chain and logistics support to Pakistan through the USAID Deliver Project operational since August 2009. The project is working closely with the Planning and Development Division, Provincial governments Health and Population, UNFPA and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to ensure contraceptives availability at each level of the health supply chain. Under the project eighty LMIS operators have been trained from 15 districts and capacity building activities are being vigorously pursued in other districts.
