'Made in Pakistan' exhibition played a vital role in introducing Pakistani products in Bangladesh and helped promote bilateral trade between the two countries, said Sohrab Hossain, High Commissioner of Bangladesh, here on Wednesday.
These activities will continue for the economic uplift of both the countries, the envoy said while talking to President Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), Ali Raza Saeed Shah and senior executives of the chamber during his visit to the chamber. Addl. Secretary Foreign Affairs (Asia-Pacific) Hasan Javed, Member Executive Committee Maqsood Ahmed Khan, Khursheed Barlas and others were also present on the occasion.
Bangladeshi envoy praised the role of RCCI for bringing the two countries closer saying that RCCI and other business leaders of Pakistan have made efforts to bring peoples of the two countries together. The High Commissioner said the recent expo organised by RCCI was a successful exercise and the same activities will be carried out to further enhance the bilateral relations.
He stressed the need for long-term policy to promote trade relations saying that the long-term policies will give a big boost to trade and economic activities in both countries. He felicitated the RCCI President on arranging a successful expo in Dhaka. Hossain said Pakistani textile products are very much liked in Bangladesh. It is need of the hour to explore non-traditional items to enhance trade.
RCCI President Ali Raza said the trade volume between the two countries is $350 million; the purpose behind organising the 'Made in Pakistan' Expo was to promote trading activities between the two countries. He said RCCI has the vision to enhance trade relations among all the Saarc countries to develop the region economically.
Ali Raza said the absence of direct shipping service is creating problems for the business community. He said non-availability of Pakistani commercial counsellor in Bangladesh is adding to the woes of the businessmen. He demanded of the government to appoint a commercial counselor to further enhance relations with BD. He thanked the High Commissioner and foreign secretary for their support to arrange such a mega event in Bangladesh.
