The Exchange of Notes and a Grant Agreement for "the Project for Strengthening of DAE Mechanical and Architecture Departments in GCT Railway Road of Punjab Province" were signed on Wednesday between Government of Japan; Economic Affairs Division (EAD) of Pakistan and Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) at Islamabad.
With the grant assistance of JPY 867 million, JICA will assist Government College of Technology (GCT) Railway Road, Lahore in the construction of the architecture department's lecture and classroom building as well as procurement of educational and training equipment for both the architectural and mechanical departments.
The intervention of JICA in establishing GCT as a Center of Excellence (COE) started in 2008 with a technical co-operation project. For COE, the management system and mechanical and architectural courses of GCT are being strengthened for provision of technical education relevant to the industrial needs. The CoE will equip the students with latest knowledge in vogue in the industry and will provide quality workforce to the industrial market.
The current grant aid project will further augment the efforts of the technical co-operation project. A synergetic effect is anticipated from both the Japanese mode of co-operation that will make the impact of the project highly significant. In a brief ceremony, the Exchange of Notes were signed and exchanged between Hiroshi OE, Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan and Abdul Wajid Rana, Secretary EAD of Pakistan. The Grant Agreement was signed and exchanged between Takatoshi Nishikata, Chief Representative of JICA Pakistan and Munir Ahmad Chaudhary, Joint Secretary, EAD Pakistan.-PR
