The industrialists of Lahore Township Industrial Estate (LTIA) have threatened to close down their industrial units if uninterrupted electricity supply to the industrial area was not ensured.
The Lahore Township Industries Association (LTIA) Chairman Haroon Shafiq Chaudhry, in a statement on Wednesday said the industrialists of area are paying more than Rs 300 million and Rs 250 million electricity and gas bills respectively and also paying millions of rupees on account of sales tax, income tax and social security besides providing employment to more than 40,000 workers.
Huge loadshedding has put the survival of Lahore Township Industrial Area on stake, he said and added that the Lesco authorities had resorted to repeated power fluctuations and put the entire industry in deep troubles. If immediate measures were not taken to ensure continuous supply of electricity to the industrial units, nothing could stop the industrial wheel from coming to a grinding halt and resultant massive lay-offs. The industry is already passing through a very difficult time while the immense loadshedding is adding fuel to fire, he added.
This would not only bring the graph of exports down but would also jack up the graph of unemployment in the country, he said and appealed to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister to look into the matter and ensure supply of power and gas to the industrial units on priority basis.
