President Asif Ali Zardari on Wednesday convened party's central executive committee (CEC) after his return to the country, it is learnt. Sources told Business Recorder that the PPP's CEC would discuss the overall political situation of the county in the backdrop of the expected move of formation of 'grand opposition alliance'.
The decision to convene meeting of the top decision-making body of the ruling PPP has been taken following separation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) from the ruling alliance both in centre and Sindh province and move launched by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to bring all the political parties hostile to the government on one platform to create 'grand opposition alliance' for the virtual move to dethrone the current set up before the Senate elections to be held in March 2012.
Sources said that the PPP's CEC would chalk out strategy to defeat the move of the major opposition party and would also take other important decisions. Besides discussing the overall political situation, the meeting would also review the security situation of the country. Sources further said that the date of the CEC's meeting would be announced soon after the return of the president from abroad.
