Former foreign minister Shah Mehmud Qureshi met Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence on Wednesday and discussed country's political and economic situation besides matters of mutual interest. Sources told Business Recorder that Qureshi exchanged views with the PML-N leader over current situation in the region particularly in the backdrop of US announcement to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan.
Both shared their views on the performance of PPP-led coalition government and the problems confronting the country, sources added. After the meeting, Qureshi told reporters that the country was facing serious challenges and the situation demanded seriousness. He said common man is feeling insecure in the present circumstances.
Former foreign minister said that he was not annoyed with the PPP but admitted having some reservations over some issues. About the PPP-PML-Q alliance, he said PPP die-hard activists are not supportive to this alliance. PML-Q had on several occasions announced to get elected Pervez Musharraf in uniform, he added. He said PML-Q helped dictatorship grow and passed 17th Amendment.
To a query, he said question arises as to why MQM and JUI-F had parted their ways from the PPP led coalition government. To another query, he said his meeting was arranged on Nawaz Sharif's request during which views were exchanged on situation in the region. Qureshi said Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif had understanding on issues and both played key role for the restoration of democracy in the country.
