Inspector General of Police Sindh, Wajid Ali Khan Durrani, has assured business community of providing conducive atmosphere for business and industrial activities. Speaking at a meeting of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Thursday, he said that after taking charge around 18 days ago he is in constant consultation with his staff to develop a strategy to control law and order in the city.
He agreed with the members of the KCCI that without a favourable atmosphere wheels of industry could not be moved properly. Referring to last two days condition of law and order, he said it is not new thing for the city. It had happened several times in the past. Wajid Ali Khan Durrani expressed sympathy with the bereaved families who lost their near and dear ones in recent wave of targeted killings.
Wajid Ali Khan Durrani expressed hope that the citizens will start feeling relief next few days. He pointed out that police have apprehended 150 targeted killers and added that police will not allow criminals to carry out bloodbath in the city. He announced to set up Community Police Centres (CPC) in Sindh particularly in Karachi as community policing is need of the hour to handle petty issues and leave the major issues and big offences for the police. About loadshedding in the city, he held KESC responsible of deteriorating law and order condition in the city.
He said that long hours loadshedding irked people and they started agitation on road. About arms licence, he assured that he would take up the issue with Secretary Home Department to relax condition for licence-holders to carry arms for self-defence.
Leader of the business community and former president of KCCI, Siraj Kassim Teli expressed concern over deteriorating law and order condition in city and said that the days are not far away when industrialists closed down industrial units and go home.
He said "We are in the middle of civil war and it is going to sped rapidly". He quoted example of USA where law and order condition in some states deteriorated to the extent that it become uncontrollable. The then USA government allows every one keep arms without any license. This experiment proved to be a success and when criminals pulled out arms the other people also pulled out arms.
Former President KCCI, Haroon Farooqui pleaded that arm license holders must be allowed to carry arms and there should be no restriction for carrying licensed arms under sector 144. President KCCI, Mohammad Saeed Shafiq said illegal SIMs play vital role in criminal activities in the city. He said several claims were made that over 200,000 illegal SIMs were blocked but practically nothing was done in this regard.
