Every item sought after during the Ramazan was costlier such as Basmati rise, black pepper, masoor, peanuts, cardamom during the week ended on July 9, 2011.
The opening day of the outgoing week saw most items traded on the wholesale commodity markets such as Irri-9 Sindh up by Rs 400 to Rs 5100 and Rs 5200, Basmati No 386 up by Rs 500 to Rs 6200 and Rs 6300, Sela Basmati rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6000 and Rs 6200, wheat old and new both conceded Rs 25 to Rs 2650 and Rs 2665, barley Sindh and Mardan was quoted at Rs 2700 and Rs 2750, guwar Sindh Mardan were quoted at Rs 5400 and 5500, guwar Sindh and Punjab rose by Rs 50 to Rs 5300 and Rs 5400, cotton cakes with bag in Sindh low quality stayed put at Rs 1380, while good type lost Rs 20 to Rs 1430, til low type was unchanged at Rs 3500 while better type shed Rs 50 to Rs 3800.
On Jodia Bazaar (40 kg) black pepper from Singapore ended higher by Rs 300 to Rs 21,000 black pepper from Brazil rose by Rs 500 to Rs 22,000, nutmeg rose by Rs 3000 to Rs 32,000, big cardamom rose by Rs 4000 to Rs 82,000, cloves rose by Rs 4500 to Rs 40,000, copra Ceylon at Rs 8500 copra from India up Rs 1000 to Rs 8000, Ajwain up by Rs 500 to Rs 5500, dry ginger from China shed Rs 200 to Rs 14800, peanuts rose by Rs 200 to Rs 14800, sago shed Rs 100 to Rs 3150, cumminseed rose by Rs 1300 to Rs 12,000 and darchini shed Rs 300 to Rs 6700.
On Tuesday trading report was not available. On Wednesday trading was restrained, still price ended firmer such as masoor Canada rose by Rs 500 to Rs 6000 and Rs 7500, bajra sustained rise recording Rs 100 to Rs 2700 and Rs 3000, wheat old with bardana down Rs 10 to Rs 2640 and wheat new with bardana rose by Rs 10 to Rs 2655 gur low type rose by Rs 200 to Rs 6700 while the better type was unchanged at Rs 7800,cottonseed cakes with bag in Sindh shed Rs 5 to Rs 1375 and Rs 1425.
On Thursday rice and khandsari prices were up on grain market - Irri-6 Sindh rose by Rs 500 to Rs 3800 and Rs 3900, Kandsari rose by Rs 500 to Rs 2625 and Rs 2640, wheat old and new with bardana shed Rs 15 to Rs 2625 and Rs 2640.
On Jodia Bazaar chemical items (per kg) caustic soda flakes Saudi quoted at Rs 52, Sodium sulphate rose by Re 1 to Rs 16, N.J. Taiwan down by Rs 8 to Rs 240, formic acid from Germany down Re 1 to Rs 110, oxalic acid China rose by Rs 12 to Rs 80 petroleum jelly DDBSA quote at Rs 161 and PVA Japan quoted at Rs 220
On Friday, all the rates were unchanged on the wholesale grain and seed market as almost all participants were busy in preparations for Juma prayers.
On Saturday small business was seen as number of buyers were conspicuous by their absence. Wheat old and new bardana prices continued weakness, falling by another Rs 25 to Rs 2600-2615, other items maintained overnight levels. Cottonseed oilcake with bag Sindh low type inched up by Rs 5 to Rs 1380 and best type posted fresh gain of Rs 25 to Rs 1450, castor seeds Lasbela low type picked up Rs 50 to Rs 2300 and good type was higher by Rs 2350 and castorseed Sindh was quoted at Rs 2200. Prices on the rice and grams sectors did not move any side in lacklustre activity.
