'Modern transplant centre to be set up in Lahore'

Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that state of the art transplant centre would be set up in the provincial metropolis and in this connection, constituted a steering committee, headed by him, to take measures for early completion of the project.
He was presiding over a meeting to review the progress of health projects in Lahore and other parts of the province here on Monday, disclosed an official. Chairman Planning and Development, Secretaries Health and Finance attended the meeting. The CM disclosed that prime location has been selected for the said transplant centre wherein facilities of transplantation of kidney and liver would be available to the masses. All possible steps would be taken for completing this project within a year by working round the clock, he added.
He also directed that a mega plan of health would be prepared for the city and this plan should also be implemented in other districts of the province so that provision of basic medical facilities to the masses could be ensured at all costs. "Mobile health units have been imported for provision of modern medical facilities to the people of far flung areas of the province and six mobile units have started working in backward areas.
He further said that 50 mobile health units are being imported this year and these units would be provided in every tehsil. The company providing these mobile health units will be responsible for their maintenance and third party audit should be got conducted for reviewing the performance of these mobile units," he added.
Shahbaz further directed to start the project of construction of hospital consisting of 300 beds in Shahdara at the earliest and added that best design be selected for this project. He disclosed that Said Mitha Hospital has been completed and will be inaugurated within next few days. He directed to fill in all vacancies of doctors and paramedical staff in the hospital and added that cleanliness system of this hospital should be outsourced and a comprehensive strategy should be evolved in this regard.
According to him, such a system would be evolved in the hospitals under which companies providing these modern machines should be responsible for their functioning so that the trend of making these machines out of order should be eliminated. The CM also directed to release funds for Mian Mir Hospital and completing the project within next two to three months. He directed to upgrade Mazang Hospital to 50 beds and state of the art mother and child healthcare facilities should be provided in this hospital. "Four medical colleges are being set up this year in the province and these projects would also be completed speedily," he added.
