A delegation of Awami National Party (ANP) appreciated the steps taken by the government for restoration of peace in Karachi and making the local administration more responsive to emerging law and order situation in the province. A seven-member delegation of ANP called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday.
The delegation also welcomed the decision to immediately fill the vacant posts of judges of the anti-terror courts and to strengthen the prosecution side of the justice system. The delegation comprised Senator Zahid Khan, MNA Ms. Jamila Gilani, KP Senior Minister Bashir Ahmed Bilour, KP Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Shahi Syed, Lala Ajab Khan and Bashir Jan. Senator Sardar Ali Khan was also present during the meeting.
Central Information Secretary of ANP Zahid Khan told Business Recorder that his party during meeting with the President discussed targeted killing in Karachi, strike of KESC's employees and political situation of the country. He said his party welcomed steps and reforms by the government to establish peace in Karachi. He said ANP fully supports the government on these reforms. He said his party would stand by with the government whatever steps it takes for peace in Karachi.
He said the issue of KESC employees was discussed, adding that his party urged the Sindh government to resolve this issue amicably and restore the employees to overcome the problems of the people of Karachi. He said the President was of the view that PPP has already adopted the policy of reconciliation and its doors are open for all parties in this regard.
According to a handout issued from the Presidency on Monday, the President while talking to the ANP delegation said the government was committed to safeguarding life and property of citizens at all cost as it was the prime responsibility of every democratic government. He said the government while pursuing the policy of reconciliation would continue with its efforts to take along all the political forces with it on all major decisions. He reiterated the government resolve to restore peace and law and order and to bring the culprits to book regardless of their political affiliations, if any. Later, the President hosted lunch for the delegation.
