Sindh High Court Tuesday issued notices to Federal Interior, Sindh Home Secretaries and other respondents on petition challenging targeted killings in Karachi. A division bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed and Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, also issued notice to Federal Law Officer and Provincial Law Officer for July 20, 2011.
Petitioner Rana Faizul Hassan submitted that over 100 people have been killed in incidents of target killings in four days in Karachi. Overall nearly 1,200 people have fallen prey to targeted killings in last six months in city.
He contended people are being killed on the basis of ethnicity in which innocent people are being targeted. He stated due to worsening law-and-order situation people are forced to leave their homes. He submitted despite bad situation government is not performing its duties; therefore, it failed to control situation.
He prayed to order Federal and Provincial official respondents to control law, order and restore peace in the city. After preliminary hearing, SHC division bench issued notices to Federal Interior, Sindh Home Secretaries, IG Police Sindh, CCPO Karachi and other respondents for July 20, 2011. It also issued notice to Deputy Attorney General and Advocate General Sindh to file comments on next date.
