US raw sugar rallied over 5 percent early on Tuesday as fears of a shrinking cane crop from the world's No 1 producer Brazil spurred investor buying. New York's October raw sugar contract soared 1.63 cents, or 5.64 percent, to trade at 30.55 cents per lb by 12:40 pm EDT (1640 GMT).
Cocoa futures ended higher while coffee futures dropped, with both markets sustaining early losses due to the fallout from the eurozone debt crisis. New York's September cocoa contract edged up $1 to close at $3,051 per tonne. ICE September arabica futures lost 1.95 cents to trade at $2.571 per lb at 12:42 pm.
