Pakistan is set to receive a further 6 million euros (8.5 million dollars) in aid from the European Union to deal with the aftermath of last year's devastating floods, the bloc's executive said Thursday. The decision takes total EU humanitarian aid provided to Pakistan this year to 76 million euros, coming on top of the 150 million euros that were allocated in 2010.
EU Humanitarian Aid Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva said the extra funding was approved because "the number of people who are unable to afford food and the rates of malnutrition have reached alarming levels in some parts of Pakistan."
