The 32nd session of the National Assembly has been summoned on July 21 to discuss key issues including Karachi carnage, rigging in recent AJK elections, energy crisis, load shedding and price hike in the country, it is learnt. National Assembly Secretariat sources told Business Recorder that the session is likely to continue for two to three days.
They said that the audit reports-2010-11 of Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) and "The Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power (Amendment) Bill, 2010" is likely to be presented for approval. Earlier, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Mutahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) had submitted requisition on July 8, 2011, to call the session of National Assembly to discuss the latest incidents of the target killings in Karachi. After requisition, it was mandatory for the President to summon the session of the National Assembly within 14 days.
The requisition for summoning the National Assembly was signed by 92 members of PML-N and 11 members of MQM. According to political sources MQM would support PML-N and both would adopt joint strategy in the Parliament to play the role of opposition and would forcefully criticise the government on target killing in Karachi, load shedding and inflation in the country.
According to press release issued from National Assembly Secretariat, Dr Fehmida Mirza, Speaker National Assembly of Pakistan has summoned the session of the National Assembly on July 21, 2011, at 5:00pm in the Parliament House. The Speaker has summoned the National Assembly Session in exercise of powers conferred by clause (3) of Article 54 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
