A delegation of woven garment exporters is set to visit Bangladesh soon to look into the business opportunities there, said the value added sector sources. The sources confided to Business Recorder that the leaders of woven garment industry are also seeking appointment from British High Commission in Islamabad before visiting Bangladesh.
It may be noted that the woven garment industry is not happy with the business environment locally due to government's indifferent attitude on DLTL scheme, security situation and energy crisis. There is a general impression that the government is not serious either in clearing stuck up drawback claims or in continuity of DLTL scheme ahead. According to them, Bangladesh market is ideal regarding government facilities and impressive market access.
The value added industry sources revealed that garment exporters from Faisalabad and Karachi have already set up their units in Bangladesh and a good number of leading exporters are also visiting Bangladesh frequently. A clear-cut indication from the apparel industry leadership of forming a delegation and visit Bangladesh must ring alarm bell in government quarters.
It may be noted that the federal government sources have mentioned that the officials from the Ministry of Textile have proposed continuity of DLTL scheme but the federal finance ministry is still adamant to discontinue with the scheme. Both Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) and Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (PHMA) are pressing the government for continuity of the drawback facility, enabling the industry to compete with regional competitors.
