Lahore High Court here Thursday sought record of all employees of Punjab government who had enjoyed medical treatment abroad at the state's expense since 1997. On Thursday, a representative of health department appeared before the court and reiterated that restriction was imposed on medical treatment aboard at state expenses in 1997 and this policy is still continuing.
He, however, did not produce the list of persons who had enjoyed this facility during the ban and sought time to prepare and produce the same before the court. The petitioner, Dr Sajjad Hussain, a retired government servant, was seeking release of outstanding payment incurred on the treatment of his dependent daughter.
During previous hearing, the petitioner claimed that despite a ban imposed on such facility in 1997, Punjab government had been reimbursing medical expenses to government servants who got their treatment from abroad. Dr Hussain pointed out that government introduced a new arrangement in which instead of reimbursement the medical allowance had been added to salary/pension.
