The power supply situation worsened further on Thursday amidst short supply of generation fuel both on hydel and thermal fronts, pushing more and more consumers to come on streets and protest against the government. According to the latest data provided by Pepco, power generation stood at 12,881MW against a demand of 18,706MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 5,825MW during the last 24 hours.
Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs stood at 5,094MW, 1,712MW, 5,951MW and 124MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to KESC remained 740MW. The Pepco sources pointed out that the hydel, thermal and IPPs are running below their capacities due to short supply of fuel. They said efforts are being made to meet supply shortage ahead of the holy of month of Ramadan are on the way with no clue as when the situation would normalise.
Meanwhile, the power consumers protested against the prevailing circumstances in different parts of the country. They came out on streets and shouted slogans against relevant authorities. Majority of them also criticised the government for not prioritising availability of electricity since last three and a half years.
