The Eco-Internship Programme 2011 Wednesday concluded at Government University Lahore which imparted training to as many as 108 Ravians about the conservation of eco-system and Pakistan's natural resources and environmental challenges.
The internship programme was initiated by WWF Pakistan in collaboration with GCU Career Guidance and Placement Centre (CGPC). GCU Registrar Professor Syed Anjum Nisar chaired the certificate awarding ceremony of the programme while WWF Pakistan Director Operations Anwar Naseem was the chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Anjum Nisar said that the academic refinement of the students could not be achieved without offering them adequate exposure to the harsh realities of everyday life. He hoped that eco-internship programme would help students to develop an insight into the dynamics and challenges confronting the eco-system of Pakistan. "Since the older generations of our country failed in their responsibility as custodians of our natural resources, it is imperative for the youth to play an effective role for ecological conservation in the future," he said.
Addressing the ceremony, WWF Pakistan Director Operations Anwar Naseem lamented that there is lack of opportunities in Pakistan for students to get actively involved in environmental conservation. He said that WWF Pakistan has put in their best efforts to train the Ravians with modern techniques including environment expert presentations, group work, hands-on activities, documentaries, interactive discussions, creative challenges and enriching exposure visits. GCU CGPC Adviser, Yousaf Bashir congratulated the GCU students who have become official ambassadors of WWF Pakistan upon the conclusion of this programme.
Later, GCU student Moshsin Gul was awarded special prize for his overall commendable performance during the training, while the performances of Ayesha Javed, Mahjabeen Irfan, Aneeba Rashid, Naila Islam, Sahrish Jabbar, Maryam Mukhtar, Rizwan Noor, Hafiza Jawaria Munir and Anum Munir Rana were also appreciated.
