Pakistan cueists again fought well before going down 2-3 against Wales in the World Cup Snooker Team Championship in Bangkok (Thailand) on Thursday. Pakistan Champion Shahid Aftab and former Asian number two Muhammad Sajjad made a disappointing start by conceding a 03 lead to Wales before fighting back to win the last two matches.
Pakistan's fighting show allowed them to stay at second position in the points table, only behind leaders Wales. In third match of group "A" Mark Williams provided Wales a confident start by defeating Shahid Aftab.
Matthew Stevens doubled the lead by edging out Mohammad Sajjad. The Welsh pair then also wrapped up the doubles frame to claim 3-0 lead. However fortunes were reversed when Mohammad Sajjad surprised Mark Williams and Shahid Aftab defeated Matthew Stevens to salvage their pride with 2-3 scoreline. Pakistan started their league campaign by shocking Ireland 3-2 but they lost the next two matches against Germany and Wales. In their last league game on Friday, Pakistan will take on Egypt and a big win against them will brighten their chances for the place in the quarterfinal.
