Pakistan has not yet formally requested the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the Fund''s July visit to Pakistan, sources told Business Recorder here on Monday. According to sources, it is totally up to the government to invite the Fund for discussions for the fifth review under Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) program.
According to IMF terms and regulations, a member country can invite the Fund to hold discussions and in case of Pakistan it has not sent any request in this regard so far.
Sources said, "The absence of Shahid Kardar, State Bank Governor, is not the reason behind the delay in finalising the dates for IMF''s visit to Pakistan, and the government of Pakistan has decided to invite the IMF before the start of Ramazan".
The meeting was scheduled to be held in July 2011, according to a statement issued by the Fund dated May 17, "The IMF remains committed to the ongoing dialogue with Pakistan, and discussions will continue in the weeks ahead, and a mission is planned for July 2011.", officials added.
