Appeal against EC verdict dismissed

A division bench of Lahore High Court here Tuesday dismissed an appeal of PML-Q MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain against a verdict of election tribunal which had directed Gujrat Sessions Judge to inspect sealed ballot papers. The election tribunal had issued this order in an election petition of PPP defeated candidate Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali Gill challenging the victory of Wajahat Hussain.
He accused Wajahat of rigging the poll, subverting the election process. Wajahat, through his counsel, pleaded that election tribunal acted as a civil judge, therefore, it could not issue direction to sessions judge. The bench, however, rejecting the arguments upheld the order of the election tribunal.
