In a bid to chalk out a joint strategy in the Parliament and give tough time to the government, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership on Thursday held separate meetings with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) leadership here at the Parliament House prior the session of the two houses.
PML-N's leaders Senator Pervez Rashid and Khawaja Asif met with MQM's Syed Haider Abbas Rizvi, Khushbakhat Shujaat and Iqbal Ahmed Ali. They agreed to adopt a joint strategy in the two houses of the parliament that have been requisitioned by the opposition parties. Insiders said that the two parties also vowed to adopt joint strategy in future in the parliament on national issues.
Meanwhile, PML-N's leaders Senator Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Saad Rafiq, Ahsan Iqbal and Tariq Fazal Chaudhry held meeting with JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman, leader of the opposition in Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and Azam Khan Swati.
Later talking to reporters, JUI-F Chief said his party would support PML-N in all matters, including the formation of a grand alliance. He said the PML-N and JUI-F would adopt a joint strategy for the National Assembly and Senate sessions. He said that the two sides discussed various national issues and the controversy of leader of the opposition in the Senate was also discussed during the meeting. Haideri on the occasion said that the two parties agreed that a joint strategy would be adopted during the current session of the Parliament.
To a question, he said that PML-N being a major political party should exhibit responsibility and accept the ruling of chairman Senate Farooq H. Naek, in which the Maulana was once again nominated as leader of the opposition in the Upper House of the Parliament. He further said that unity among the ranks of opposition parties depends on the attitude of PML-N, so therefore, he added that the PML-N should demonstrate responsibility.
