Lahore High Court here Friday restrained local government from holding bidding to lease out parking slots outside 400 private plazas in the city and sought reply from secretary local government till July 30. The bidding was scheduled to be held on July 23 (today).
The court issued this order in a writ petition filed by advocate Tanveer Hussain Bokhari in public interest. The petitioner-lawyer contended that local government had prepared a list of 400 plazas of the city and announced to lease out parking slots. He pointed out that local government is not authorised to lease out these parking slots, as government is not an owner of them.
He said holding of bidding and receiving fee for lease contract by local government is illegal and unconstitutional. He therefore prayed to the court to restrain local government from holding bidding and leasing parking places to the bidders.
