The unabated violence continued to bedevil the city, as 20 more people were killed on Sunday amid mounting tension in many areas of the metropolis, Aaj News reported. Following the killings, Sindh home department imposed ban on pillion riding for indefinite period.
The worst areas affected by the bloodletting were Malir, Bakra Peeri, Mohabbatnagar, Aligarh Colony, Bukhari Colony, Landhi, North Karachi, Surjani, Baldia Town, Karimabad and Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
In Gulshan-e-Iqbal, at least two people were gunned down, while a man was killed in Gurumandar on late Sunday night. Two persons were killed in firing incident in Shah Faisal Mohalla of Orangi Town.
Meanwhile, three people were shot dead at Anda Morr in North Karachi.
A man, Zeeshan, 30 was gunned down in Mawachh Goth and Irfan in Murghi Khana area of Quaidabad.
Noorul Islam, 55, was killed in firing at Masjid Siddiq-e-Akbar situated in Surjani Town, Sector 7-A, while another man was shot dead near Ghas Mandi.
A man, Badr Ifzaal, who was injured a day earlier in Malir violence, succumbed to his wounds on Sunday.
Two men were killed in firing incidents in Quaidabad and Liaquatabad.
Four mortar shells were fired in Jaffer Tayyar Society and Mohabbat Nagar, wherein three people were injured.
Violence erupted in some areas of the city following some miscreants' pelted stones at funeral procession of Mukhtar Bukhari Advocat in Abbas Town.
Shia Ulema Council has announced to observe three-day mourning from Monday against the killing of Mukhtar Advocate. Council's leaders pleaded Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take notice of the killing.
In wake of the continuing violence, Sindh home department imposed a ban on pillion riding.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah chaired a meeting at CM House to review obtaining law, order situation in the city.
He instructed Director General Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, and IG Police Sindh to take indiscriminate action against culprits and maintain peace in the city.
