ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has accepted the resignation of SBP Governor Shahid H Kardar. The government has appointed senior most Deputy Governor Yaseen Anwar as Acting Governor of SBP. "Yes the resignation of Shahid Kardar has been accepted by PM," a senior government official added.
A press release issued by the PM House says that Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Monday accepted the resignation of Governor State Bank of Pakistan Shahid Hafiz Kardar and appointed the senior most Deputy Governor, Yaseen Anwar, as Acting Governor of the State Bank with immediate effect. Governor State Bank Shahid Kardar had in a letter dated July 15, addressed to the Prime Minister tendered resignation. The resignation letter, inter alia, stated "I hereby resign from the position of Governor, State Bank of Pakistan. I am grateful for the privilege and great honour bestowed upon me to serve the country," press release concluded.
It was in June 2010 that Yaseen Anwar took over the charge of Acting Governor, SBP. He resumed this new responsibility following the acceptance of Syed Salim Raza's resignation, who had earlier resigned due to "personal reasons".
Anwar, who has been serving SBP as its deputy governor since 29th March 2007, has held responsibilities at different periods of managing all the four clusters of the central bank.
He has served on the board of SBP, Board of Pakistan Security Printing Corporation (PSPC), Policy Board of SECP, Board of NIBAF, and SAARC Payments Council Board. He's a member of SBP's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and has interacted with the IMF under the Standby Arrangement with Pakistan. He has also served as an alternate to the Governor on the Asian Clearing Union (ACU) Board. As a senior global banker, Anwar brought 33 years of international banking experience to SBP.
