The issue of cross-border terrorism will dominate the fourth trilateral meeting of the officials of Pakistan, United States and Afghanistan, to be held in Islamabad on Tuesday. US Special Representative Marc Grossman, Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Jawid Lodin and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir along with representatives of military and intelligence of the three countries will participate in the meeting, said Foreign Office on Saturday.
According to an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting, being held on August 2, is part of the series of interaction of the officials of the three countries to discuss the process of reconciliation started by Afghan government. The official told Business Recorder that Islamabad would raise the issue of repeated attacks by Afghan militants on Pakistan's border areas along Afghanistan in Upper Dir killing innocent people and destroying civilian as well as government installations.
Pakistan has repeatedly expressed its concerns over the cross border terrorism both with Nato officials in Afghanistan and the Afghan government to stop the militants' attacks on Pakistani localities. However, Kabul has also alleged Pakistani security forces for attacking civilian population across the border. The official said that the fourth round of the trilateral meetings of Pakistan, US and Afghanistan would discuss border co-operation and the issues of cross border terrorism. The Core Group of the three countries was established to promote the process of reconciliation and peace in Afghanistan.
