Teams constituted to curtail water theft

The Punjab Irrigation Department (PIG) has constituted 11 different field teams for the surprise checking of water outlets and taking prompt action against the delinquents. Similarly, 58 motorist officials have also been deputed for discharge measurement in minor canals.
The prime objective of this step is to ensure equitable distribution of canal water as well as curtailing of water theft in canals so that the water supply at tail-ends could be properly ensured. This will help the farmers to increase their agro-productivity. These teams have been instructed to conduct technical check ups of dykes besides checking water outlets. These teams send their reports to the Irrigation headquarters on daily basis for taking timely action, if any, in this regard.
