The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has directed higher education authorities to start monitoring of performance of Executive District Officers (EDOs) and send reports to his office in this regard. The directives were issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education, Sardar Hussein Babak while presiding over a meeting here in his office at Civil Secretariat on Saturday.
The provincial minister expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of newly appointed executive district officers (EDOs) that the Elementary and Secondary Education Department posted in almost all the districts of the province. The provincial minister said that EDOs have failed to exhibit any difference in performance of the department. Strict action is likely to be taken against those who are allegedly involved in corrupt practices and the probation period of those who have failed to show outstanding performance may also be extended for one year.
Expressing anger over the reports of alleged corruption by EDOs and their failure to show any change in the affairs of education department, Babak said the government took a very big step and separated teaching and management cadres in order to streamline the system. However, it further deteriorated, which would not be tolerated. He said the step was an unusual one taken in the history of education department but it was also being foiled by corrupt elements.
Speaking on the occasion, Secretary Education, Mushtaq Jadoon assured the minister that he is going to develop a system in two months time and after that performance of each individual would be automatically known.
Secretary Education Mushtaq Jadoon, Special Secretary Farid Qureshi Additional Secretary Sharafat Rabbani, Director Schools Sarwat Jahan, Director ESRU Riaz Bahar Akhunzada, Additional Directors Rafiq Khattak, Shabir Hussain Shah and others also attended the meeting. It may be mentioned here that EDO Peshawar was made OSD following allegations of corruption the other day.
