In occupied Kashmir, Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has reacted sharply to Indian External Affairs Minister, S M Krishna's objection to the meeting of Hurriyet leaders with Pakistani Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar in New Delhi.
The APHC Chairman addressing a gathering in Srinagar said, "It is really sad and surprising that the government of India, particularly Foreign Minister, S M Krishna, have objected to our meeting with the Pakistani foreign minister," KMS reported on Saturday.
He deplored that on one hand, New Delhi claimed to be keen on resolving the Kashmir issue through dialogue with Pakistan and on the other, when the latter tried to take the Kashmiri leadership on board, objections were raised. He said that the Kashmiris were not ready to be pushed in any direction like dumb, driven cattle.
The Mirwaiz said that India had always shied away from resolving the Kashmir dispute. "Hurriyet presented suggestions in this regard in 2004, 05 and 06 but New Delhi didn't move an inch and now when an important party to the dispute (Pakistan) wants to move forward and take the Kashmiri leadership on board, the government of India has problems with that as well," he stated. The APHC Chairman reiterated that for meaningful and result-oriented talks between India and Pakistan, both the countries needed to make the talks time-bound and involve the Kashmiri leadership with the process.
