There is no justification of load shedding in Karachi when government has ensured to provide 200 mmcfd of gas to Karachi Electric Supply Company besides also given a subsidy of Rs 3 billions for purchasing furnace oil, said General Secretary KESC Share Holders' Association.
In his statement on Monday, Chaudhry Mazhar said that the power generation capacity of KESC is more than 1,200MW which includes 6 old units of 160MW each and one new unit of 115MW at Bin Qasim Power Plant (BQPP). He said KESC has also nine gas turbines of 25MW each which can generate 180MW. These gas turbines have been decommissioned for unknown reasons, Mazhar notified.
He underlined that KESC is getting 240 mega watts from Tapal and Gul Ahmed besides WAPDA and KENUP are providing 700MW and 83MW, respectively, the utility. The total available electricity to company is 2,300MW. Mazhar said that total peak hour demand of electricity in city around 2,400MW thus the citizens of Karachi are suffering only due to mismanagement of sitting management in utility.
He alleged that all money which is being received by KESC from the consumer being sent out of the country the management. The monthly revenue collection of the company is around 9 billion rupees and the share holders want to know where the money is being spent, he asked. Mazhar has demanded that an enquiry in to financial affairs of the company should be made by the government.-PR
