The LPG Association of Pakistan (LPGAP) has expressed grave concern over baseless propaganda of so-called LPG distributors and urged Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to restart the registration process of LPG distributors. A spokesman of the LPGAP Belal Jabbar said here on Monday that LPG marketing companies did not raise the LPG price as was being claimed by the distributors.
He said there exists no problem with regard to supply of LPG in the country, as 2,500 tonnes of LPG had already arrived at the Engro Vopak terminal in Karachi ahead of Ramazan while two more consignment of 2,500 tonnes each of LPG is expected to arrive till 2nd week of August.
He said that LPG marketing companies operate within strict regulations as stipulated by OGRA and submit daily, weekly and monthly price notifications to both the Ministry of Petroleum and OGRA. However, he said that negative impression is being created by the so-called representatives of LPG distributors. He added that these elements are not real representatives of the distributors and they have been creating misunderstanding between distributors and marketing companies.
The LPGAP spokesman Belal Jabbar said that majority of the distributors are ready for registration provided the OGRA should fix a reasonable fee of registration adding that a very small section of distributors is against the registration and they had no investment in the business. He said that OGRA should maintain check-and-balance system on the distributors because they are selling both local and imported LPG on the same price. At present, there is no check and balance on distributors who continue to make exorbitant margins at the expense of the consumer. He also said that LPG companies cannot be held responsible for the actions of the distributors.
