The federal government has completely banned eating, drinking and smoking at public places during fasting hours in Ramazan to ensure sanctity of the month. The canteens in hospitals, airports, railway stations and bus stands will remain open.
The ban was imposed in accordance with the provisions of 'Ehteram-e-Ramazan (Sanctity of Ramazan) Ordinance, 1981 and provincial governments and concerned authorities were asked to ensure strict implementation of the ordinance, informed sources in Interior Ministry revealed to this scribe on Monday.
They said that all concerned authorities were asked to ensure implementation of Ordinance, which prohibits eating or serving of eatable at public places, prescribes closure timing of cinema houses and theaters. The Ordinance states, "No person shall eat, drink or smoke at public place during fasting hours". Under the ordinance, they said, all cinema houses, theaters and similar establishments or institutions shall remain closed during Ramazan from the time of sunset to the expiration of three hours thereafter.
