The Swiss franc surged against the euro and the dollar on Tuesday, closing in on all-time highs hit Monday as investors continued to fret over poor manufacturing data in the United States and Europe. The franc leapt 1 percent against the euro compared to the New York close, trading at 1.1065 francs to the euro at 0645 GMT in what traders described as "hectic" trading. The franc was 0.6 percent higher against the dollar at 0.7789 francs to the dollar.
