The Frontier Constabulary will be given the powers of police and its personnel will remain on duty as a reserved force and their services will be utilised as needed. The DIGs and SSPs will visit every police station twice a week and present their report to IG Sindh. In addition, the performance of every Station House Officer (SHO) will be scrutinised.
This was decided at a high-level meeting on the deteriorating law and order situation in some parts of Karachi, at the Chief Minister's House here on Tuesday. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, who chaired the meeting along with Interior Minister Rahman Malik, has asked the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) including Rangers and police to immediately chalk out effective action plan against criminals, anti-state elements and terrorists.
Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan, Chief Secretary, Additional Secretary Home, Acting Director General Rangers and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
IG Police Sindh Wajid Ali Durrani gave a detailed presentation on the law and order situation and said that so far 91 persons have been arrested on charges of targeted killing, who have confessed to have killed at least 191 people. He said that police is expecting good results of these arrests and more arrests will be made on the information provided by these people.
The meeting noted that the recent wave of killings has been fostered by the anti-state elements who are triggering violence in different parts of Karachi. The meeting was told that some of these criminals are operating under the garb of different political parties. Police have been asked to investigate and verify whether these elements have links with political parties.
The meeting decided to deal with these elements and terrorists with an iron hand and Rangers and police will promptly and indiscriminately act against these elements. The meeting was told that Provincial Home Minister and IGP would present reports about SSPs/DSPs/SHOs to the Sindh Government every fortnight.
The outstanding SHOs and police stations will be praised and awarded with prizes accordingly. The meeting also decided to give a prize of Rs five million on providing information about a person involved in targeted killings and Rs 10 million on provision of photograph or video of such killer. The identity of information provider will be kept secret. The Chief Minister and Interior Minister also appealed to political parties to come forward and cooperate with LEAs in maintaining peace in Karachi.
