Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday strongly demanded of the government to call all the heads of security and law enforcement agencies of the country within two days for a briefing to the Parliament on law and order situation in Karachi. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) also supported the PML-N demand by thumping the desks.
"My party demands of the government to call Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Director General Intelligence Bureau (IB), officials of the special branch of Sindh, Director General (DG) Rangers, Inspector General (IG) Police and Sindh Chief Minister in a session of the Parliament to give a briefing on the law and order situation in Karachi," PML-N Information Secretary Ahsan Iqbal said on the floor of the National Assembly while taking part in the debate on Karachi situation.
He said that the security agencies should expose those who were behind the increasing incidents of targeted killings in Karachi. The agencies should also inform the House about the hands barring them to control the situation in the city, he added.
During the last six months as many as 1,139 people had been killed in Karachi, Ahsan said adding that most of the victims were ordinary people. The PML-N leader said "there is no need of such security agencies, if they are unable to control the situation in Karachi." He said that the country's economy was sinking and the investors were shifting their investment to other countries due to deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi. Syed Asif Hussain of MQM said that it was a conspiracy to divide the country by creating worst law and order situation in Karachi.
Sher Muhmmad Baloch of PPP said that leaders of the political parties should hold public gathering in Karachi for bringing peace to the mega city. Federal Minister for Railways suggested that for the purpose of deweaponisation, Karachi should be handed over to Army for one month.
He said that MQM Chief Altaf Hussain should return to Pakistan and hold meetings with political parties for establishing peace in the city. Makhdoom Javed Hashmi of PML-N said that a national commission should be established to resolve the issues of Karachi. He said: "We have to create more provinces to control the country effectively." There was a need to create more provinces both in Punjab and Sindh, he added.
