For years, the situation of killings in Karachi is like the heartbeat of a patient. After sometime, it experiences a jerk as the daily routine of eight to 12 killings gets disturbed like a hike in the heartbeat of a patient. After every hike, all the political stakeholders are asked to sit together, there is some give-and-take and the death toll comes down rapidly.
Every time, there is some political issue, it always translates into bloodbath where the political activists, as well as common people are gunned down by 'unknown' assailants. It is rather interesting that whenever there is a political compromise and the issue gets settled, the situation comes back to normal, which indicates that the movers and shakers of political affairs are perhaps directly connected to violent activities.
A fight for dominance has turned Karachi into a living hell. We can witness this struggle for power and dominance even on the provincial level and that has made Balochistan a land of missing persons. The situation in Karachi will not change until and unless we struggle for a system, which doesn't allow the majority to exploit the minority.
