Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice here on Thursday restrained Punjab police from taking any coercive action against a contractor who accused police of implicating him in fake cases allegedly at the behest of Chief Minister Punjab. The petitioner Azam Saeed through his counsel contended that he was awarded a contract by Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) to build a park in front of CM house in Murree.
He said administration of the CM house asked him to abandon the construction work but he continued the same as per contract terms and conditions. Petitioner said during the period of one month police registered various cases under different charges against him and sent him behind the bars. He alleged that the police implicated him in fake cases on direction of CM as Chief Minister wanted to give contract to someone else of his own choice but he obtained the contract having being a lowest bidder and fulfilling all requirements.
Petitioner prayed that the cases against him be quashed being fabricated and without lawful authority. The CJ ordered the Punjab inspector general of police not to take any action against the petitioner and appoint a DIG rank officer to hold an inquiry into the matter. He also sought a reply from the TDCP by August 9.
