People took a sigh of relief as monsoon rains brought the mercury down by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius on Friday after a week of hot and humid weather in the plains of Punjab. Weather remained extremely hot and humid last week. The gusty winds followed by scattered showers during the last two days, have brought the day's temperature down from 42 degree Celsius to 35 C and night temperature to 26 degree Celsius in the provincial metropolis.
According to the Met office more monsoon rains are expected at scattered places of Punjab, KP & Kashmir. On Saturday (today) scattered thunderstorm/ rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over lower Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North & Northeast Punjab & Kashmir. Isolated thunderstorm/rain is also expected over Multan, D.G. Khan, Bahawalpur divisions and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Met office added.
It said trough of westerly wave over north-east Afghanistan persists. Seasonal low lies over Northwest Balochistan. Moist current from Arabian Sea is penetrating Punjab upto 4000 feet and likely to intensify after 48-hours. During next two days rain bearing system is likely to affect North & Northeast Punjab along with Upper Catchments of Rivers Sutlej, Ravi & Chenab.
