The Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO-Pakistan) has decided to launch an effective and relentless drive against pirates and counterfeiters who are not only infringing rights of original producers but also deceiving the consumers with fake products.
It was decided in the 4th meeting of the Regional Enforcement Co-ordination Committee that was held at the IPR Regional office on Saturday. IPO Director General Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta presided over the meeting, which was attended by senior officers from FIA, Police, Pakistan Customs, Custom Intelligence, Pemra, National Book Foundation and WTO Wing, Ministry of Industries, Commerce and Investment, while provincial government was represented by its respective departments.
It was also decided that a comprehensive training session would be held in Lahore in September for the officials of Pakistan Customs, FIA, Police, Pemra and other enforcement agencies to build their capacity for addressing Intellectual Property crimes effectively.
The representatives of enforcement agencies were asked to nominate focal persons in their organisations to co-ordinate with IPO Pakistan for timely addressing the complaints filed by the right holders against pirates and counterfeiters. The same focal persons will be trained as trainers for capacity building of other officers in their departments. It was also stressed by the Director General IPO-Pakistan that monthly report of Intellectual Property cases registered in FIA, Police and Customs may be shared with IPO-Pakistan for evaluation and follow up.
